Robert E. Philleo Award
The Robert E. Philleo Award of the Concrete Research Council, established in 1992, is given in recognition of a person, persons, or an organization for outstanding research in the concrete materials field, or for outstanding contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of concrete materials research. It is given in memory of an Institute Past President and Honorary Member who was also chairman of the Concrete Materials Research Council, now the Concrete Research Council. The award is a plaque suitably inscribed with the name of the recipient and the citation.

Arthur J. Boase Award
The Arthur J. Boase Award of the Concrete Research Council, established in 1971, is given in recognition of a person, persons, or an organization for outstanding research in the structural concrete field, or for outstanding contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of structural concrete research. It is given in memory of a former chairman of the ACI Building Code Committee and ASCE Committee on Masonry and Reinforced Concrete, who was the driving force behind the creation of the Reinforced Concrete Research Council in 1948, now the Concrete Research Council. The award is a plaque suitably inscribed with the name of the recipient and the citation.

Jean-Claude Roumain Innovation in Concrete Award
An award for innovation in concrete has been established by CIC in memory of Jean-Claude Roumain, a long-time CIC supporter and Executive Committee member who passed away in January 2010.
The nomination period opens January 1 and closes August 1 each year. Awardees are recognized the following year at the spring ACI Concrete Convention.
Guidelines
Nominees should be individuals who have met one of the following conditions:
- Have contributed to innovative developments in concrete mixture proportioning, production of concrete, or concrete construction; or
- Have contributed to the improvement in the manufacture of materials used in the production of concrete, and used existing and new materials in innovative ways to improve concrete construction and serviceability; or
- Used concrete in innovative ways to contribute to a sustainable built environment.
Award Requirements
Nominees should be individuals whose work has met all of the following conditions:
- Innovation(s) must be original as evidenced by: technical publications, patents issued (provide patent numbers), adoption by a minimum of one mid- to large-size company in the industry (provide names), or having been identified by trade groups as “innovative.”
- Innovation(s) must not have been previously published in a technical journal or trade publication by someone other than the nominee.
- Innovation(s) should have sustainability benefits.

Awards Procedures
Jan 1 – Aug 1 Solicitation of nominations
|
1. Promotion of and solicitations for nominations for the Arthur J. Boase Award and the Robert E. Philleo Award may be made by any member of ACI and are due by August 1 of the year prior to the year the award is made, unless the due date is extended by CRC. Each nomination shall include a completed application form. A brief curriculum vita or biographical statement may be submitted as a supplement. While ACI membership is desirable, it is not required for any qualified individual to be nominated for the award. CRC members are eligible for nomination except the current CRC officers and the CRC Awards Committee members.

Aug 1 – Aug 31 CRC Awards Committee may submit additional nominations

2. Additional nominations may be made by the members of the CRC Awards Committee. Note: Nominees not selected for an award shall be reconsidered by the Committee for one additional year. Nominees not selected for two consecutive years may be re-nominated after a lapse of two years.

Sept 1 – Sept 30 CRC Awards Committee selects final candidates
|
3. The CRC Awards Committee shall ballot the nominations for each of the two awards to select no more than two candidates for each award.

Oct 1 CRC Awards committee submits ballot to Staff Liaison and Chair
|
4. The CRC Chair determines that the recommendation of the CRC Awards Committee is in order. In the event that there is only one candidate for an award, the committee shall agree that it is appropriate to include this nominee on the ballot.

Oct 8 Award ballot opens
|
5. Staff Liaison shall submit an administrative ballot to the membership of CRC. Candidates must receive the majority vote of the entire CRC to receive the award.

Oct 22 Award ballot closes
|
6. Staff liaison notifies the CRC of the ballot results and provides details of the award selections to ACI.
