The ACI Foundation announced the election of new Trustees and the re-election of an existing Trustee to its Board. Joining Michael J. Schneider, Frederick Grubbe, Keith Kesner, David Lange, and Khaled Awad are Daniel L. Baker, elected as a Trustee, and Brett McMahon, re-elected as a Trustee. New ACI Vice President, Anton K. Schindler, will also join the Board of Trustees as part of his role.
Anton K. Schindler, FACI, is Mountain Spirit Professor and Director of the Highway Research Center at Auburn University (AU) in Auburn, AL, USA, where he teaches courses in reinforced concrete design, structural repair, and concrete materials in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has served on the AU faculty for 24 years. He helped establish the ACI AU Student Chapter and has served as its faculty advisor since 2014.
Schindler was elected an ACI Fellow and an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Fellow in 2013 and 2019, respectively. He received the ACI Foundation Building the Future Award in 2025, the ACI Delmar L. Bloem Distinguished Service Award in 2021, the ACI Cedric Willson Lightweight Aggregate Concrete Award in 2017, the Frank G. Erskine Award from the Expanded Shale, Clay and Slate Institute (ESCSI) in 2013, and the ACI Wason Medal for Materials Research in 2006 and 2011. He was a Fulbright U.S. Scholar in Finland in 2015 and 2016 to research the development of durable concrete infrastructure for the long-term storage of waste nuclear fuel.
Schindler is a member of the ACI Board of Direction, ACI Technical Activities Committee (TAC), ACI Financial Advisory Committee (FAC), and ACI Awards for Papers Committee; and past Chair and a current member of the ACI Foundation Scholarship Council, and ACI Committees 231, Properties of Concrete at Early Ages, and 237, Self-Consolidating Concrete. He served on ACI Executive Committee Task Groups on Outlook 2040 and the 2025 ACI Strategic Plan. He is also a member of ASCE and ASTM International.
Schindler received his BSE and honors degree in structural engineering from the University of Pretoria, Pretoria, South Africa, in 1993 and 1996, respectively. After working for almost 4 years in the structural design industry, he received his MSE and PhD from The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX, USA, in 1999 and 2002, respectively. He is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama.
ACI Honorary Member Daniel L. Baker is the Founder of Baker Construction, one of the United States’ largest concrete construction contractors in Monroe, OH, USA. Baker and its sister companies deliver full-scope concrete construction, protection, and restoration solutions; civil construction and deep foundations; and water and wastewater infrastructure.
Baker served as ACI President in 2001 and as past Chair of the ACI Standards Board Committee, the ACI Honors and Awards Committee, and the ACI Certification Programs Committee. He also served as a member of the ACI Board of Direction, the ACI Committee on Nominations, ACI Membership Committee, ACI Financial Advisory Committee (FAC), ACI Technical Activities Committee (TAC), and ACI Construction Liaison Committee (CLC). He received the ACI Roger H. Corbetta Concrete Constructor Award in 1993, the ACI Henry L. Kennedy Award in 1999, and the ACI Henry C. Turner Medal in 2021. He has been an active supporter of the ACI Foundation, previously serving on the Board of Trustees, the Concrete Research Council (CRC), and the Concrete Innovation Council (CIC).
Baker has served on the Boards of Allied Construction Industries, American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), Construction Business Review, and Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT). In addition, he founded and continues to lead the Baker Golf Classic, which has raised more than 1 million USD for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana since 1998.
ACI member Brett McMahon recently stepped back from his day-to-day role as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Miller & Long Co., Inc., in Bethesda, MD, USA. He is assisting with the 78-year-old company’s transition to new ownership and leadership. Under McMahon’s leadership, Miller & Long has earned over 30 awards for its expertise in commercial construction, including national awards from ACI and Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
McMahon has held volunteer leadership positions at numerous business and construction industry organizations in the metropolitan Washington, DC, USA, area, including the DC Workforce Investment Council and the Montgomery Business Development Partnership. He has served on multiple industry-related Boards, including the DC Chamber of Commerce, ABC, ABC Insurance Trust, and the DC Building Industry Association (DCBIA).
McMahon is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Maryland Army National Guard and serves on the Board of the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a nonprofit organization providing services for injured warriors throughout their recovery process. He also serves on the Board of HEROES, Inc.®, a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting the families of fallen emergency responders. McMahon previously served on the ACI Foundation’s Concrete Innovation Council.
