Seeking Nominations for ACI Foundation Personal Awards
The ACI Foundation is seeking nominations for the 2027 Personal Awards Program. These awards were established to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the concrete industry. Nominations are now being accepted for the following awards:
-
Arthur J. Boase Award: Established in 1971, it is given in recognition of a person, persons, or an organization for outstanding research in the structural-concrete field, or for outstanding contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of structural-concrete research. It is given in memory of Arthur J. Boase, former Chair of ACI Committee 318, Structural Concrete Building Code, and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Committee on Masonry and Reinforced Concrete, who was the driving force behind the creation of the Reinforced Concrete Research Council in 1948, now the Concrete Research Council.
-
Jean-Claude Roumain Innovation in Concrete Award: This award for innovation in concrete was established by the ACI Foundation Concrete Innovation Council (CIC) in memory of Jean-Claude Roumain, a long-time CIC supporter and Executive Committee member who passed in January 2010.
-
Robert E. Philleo Award: Established in 1992, it is given in recognition of a person, persons, or an organization for outstanding research in the concrete materials field, or for outstanding contributions to the advancement of concrete technology through application of the results of concrete materials research. It is given in memory of Robert E. Philleo, ACI Past President and Honorary Member, who also served as Chair of the Concrete Materials Research Council, now the Concrete Research Council.

Attend the 2026 Concrete Innovation Forum
Join the ACI Foundation from August 18-20 in Columbus, OH, USA, for the 2026 Concrete Innovation Forum. The CIC has a lineup of speakers and topics for the event, ranging from “the future of nuclear power plant construction” to “new admixtures designed for low-carbon concrete mixtures.” Several technology showcase presentations will take place.
An Embedded Sensor to Measure the Formation Factor of Concrete
At the Innovation Forum, Nima Kargah-Ostadi, Vice President of Callentis Consulting Group, LLC, will present test results for a sensor system that measures the concrete formation factor (FF). Calculated as the ratio of the concrete mixture’s electrical resistivity to the concrete pore solution resistivity (PSR), FF is an indication of concrete transport properties and is used to predict service life. Funded by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), this embedded sensor system was developed to measure both the mixture resistivity and the PSR inside cylindrical concrete samples to calculate concrete FF. The presentation will highlight test results using sensors in several concrete mixture designs exposed to different curing methods. Because of the collection of PSR data, the sensor can help evaluate or compare the impact of various additives or materials on concrete durability.
