ACI Foundation Fellowships

Fellowships are offered to high-potential graduate and
undergraduate students whose studies relate to concrete.

ACI Foundation Middle East & North Africa Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction, design, education, or materials programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

Applicants must attend a college or university in the Gulf Cooperation Council region (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates), Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, or Tunisia.

ACI Presidents' Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program in construction, design, education, or materials during the year of the award. No internship is required.

Barbara S. and W. Calvin McCall Carolinas Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction, design, education, or materials programs during the year of the award. No internship is required. The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or University of South Carolina Student Chapter, which are affiliated with the Carolinas Chapter. However, students in good standing with a university in North Carolina or South Carolina or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Burg-Coleman Iowa State 77 ACI Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students studying an advanced degree in civil engineering with a focus on concrete structures or materials. First preference are candidates who study at Iowa State. Second preference are students that are a full-time resident of Iowa at the time of application for the Fellowship. However, if no applicants apply from Iowa State or are an Iowa resident, then the award can be given to an ACI Student member. No internship is required.

JoAnne K. and Cecil L. Jones Carolinas Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction, design, education, or materials programs during the year of the award. No internship is required. The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or University of South Carolina Student Chapter, which are affiliated with the Carolinas Chapter. However, students in good standing with a university in North Carolina or South Carolina or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Tribute to the Founders Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program in construction, design, education, or materials during the year of the award. An internship is not required.

Robert F. Mast Memorial Fellowship

This award honors ACI Past President Robert F. Mast and was created through a generous legacy donation. The award is available to graduate students studying structural engineering with an emphasis on reinforced concrete design or precast/prestressed concrete design. Preference will be given to students who have previously completed an undergraduate degree in architectural engineering, architecture, or similar program. No internship is required.

S.P. Shah Fellowship

This award was sponsored by Surendra P. Shah., Ph.D., Hon. MACI, and supported by several of his past students. The award is available to PhD graduate students with an interest in concrete materials. Applicants must also be student members of ACI. No internship is required.

ACI Foundation Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a career in concrete. This award is open to study in any field of concrete (design, materials, construction, education, etc.). A total of ten awards will be offered annually. No internship is required.

ACI Foundation Concrete Materials Fellowship

Awarded to students studying and pursuing a career in concrete materials. The award is open to undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in the area of concrete materials (any of the principal ingredients that make up a concrete mixture) for application in the fields of new construction or repair and rehabilitation. No internship is required.

Cagley Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students or graduate students enrolling in a Master's program with an interest in design. An internship is required and served working in a design environment in the office of Cagley & Associates in Rockville, Maryland.

Charles Pankow Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Awardees must participate in an internship in a construction environment prior to the award year. An internship is required and usually served with Charles Pankow Builders, LTD, or on a Pankow project site.

Don Marks Memorial Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students or graduate students enrolling in a Master's program with an interest in construction. The Don Marks Memorial Fellowship provides support to students seeking a builder’s “hands-on” career in the concrete construction industry. No internship is required.

Nicholas F. Maloof, Jr. GA Chapter ACI Fellowship

Graduate or Undergraduate students studying an advanced degree related to the concrete industry with a focus on construction or building material sciences. First preference will go to candidates who are graduates of a Georgia school (high school or undergrad). Next preference will go to candidates that are a dependent of a Georgia resident. All candidates are required to have one of their endorsements be from a member of the Georgia Chapter of ACI. In the required essay, students should include a brief description of their ties to the state of Georgia. If no applicants fit these criteria, the fellowship can be awarded to ACI student members in good standing pursuing a degree in construction or building material sciences. No internship is required.

Ronald G. Burg Leadership Fellowship

The Ronald G. Burg Leadership Fellowship has been established to honor Ron’s many contributions to the concrete industry. As ACI’s Executive Vice President, his visionary leadership has initiated substantial positive changes in ACI, one of which was strengthening the ACI Foundation, its impact, and culture of philanthropy within the ACI community. The fellowship will be awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student studying in any concrete-related degree program.

ACI Foundation Concrete Practitioner Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students that have an interest in pursuing careers in construction or becoming a design professional. Both areas require attention to detail, project management skills, inter-personal skills, and the ability to problem-solve. Applicants should detail their ability to innovate, design, or improve a method or product in the submission essay. Successful practitioners also need to develop strong inter-personal skills and master technical knowledge. There is no internship requirement.

ACI Foundation Future Concrete Industry Leader Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students that have displayed leadership abilities and show a desire to become an effective concrete industry leader in the future. Applicants should detail how they have or are acquiring the attributes of a good leader in their submission essay. For example, attributes that are important in leadership are: being self-motivated, being responsible, acting with integrity, leading change, or collaboration. There is no internship requirement for this fellowship.

AOE Fellowship

Wendy O. Ward was a member of the AOE (www.aoeteam.com) team for more than 10 years. Known throughout the concrete industry as a leading expert in helping organizations with their marketing and sales efforts, she was an advocate for broadening career opportunities in the concrete industry. Wendy passed away at the early age of 32 from breast cancer.

This fellowship was established to honor her memory and help provide aid with the cost of college to students. This fellowship will be awarded to undergraduate students with an interest in sales, marketing or public relations in the design or construction industry. First preference will go to students pursuing a degree in a Concrete Industry Management (CIM), though students from other schools and programs are encouraged to apply. Your essay should highlight your interest in a career in the design and construction industry and how this fellowship will benefit your academic progress and help you meet your career goals. There is a potential internship opportunity with Advancing Organizational Excellence (AOE).

Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry and studying in a civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction industry management program. Internship is required and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Elmer Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry and studying in a civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction industry management program. Internship is required and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Students will not be awarded more than one fellowship from the ACI Foundation during the entire course of their studies.

All fellowship awardees are required to submit a written report near the end of their fellowship award period that describes the value of the fellowship to their development and preparation for their chosen career after graduation.
