Fellowships

ACI Foundation Fellowships

Fellowships are offered to high-potential graduate and undergraduate students whose studies relate to concrete.

The Student Fellowship can have a nominal term of up to two academic years, renewed annually, and may extend through graduate study. Annual renewal will be subject to re-endorsement and re-application.

Fellowship recipients will receive the following:

  • $7,000 - $15,000 educational stipend for tuition, residence, books, and materials;

  • Appropriate recognition in Concrete International magazine and on the Foundation website;

  • Paid travel expenses and attendance fees to two ACI conventions (fellowship finalists must attend the Spring ACI Convention to be interviewed where they have the option of being assigned a Convention Guide);

  • Assistance in finding an industry mentor; and

  • Assistance in finding a 10- to 12-week summer internship (internships are served the summer before the award year and are required for five of the fellowships).

Graduate Fellowships

ACI Presidents' Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction or design programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

Daniel W. Falconer Memorial Fellowship

 This award is named in memory of ACI's Managing Director of Engineering. This award will be given to a graduate student studying structural engineering with an emphasis on reinforced concrete design.  Internship is expected at the American Concrete Institute in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Tribute to the Founders Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction or design programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is expected.

Graduate & Undergraduate Fellowships

Barbara S. and W. Calvin McCall Carolinas Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in construction, design, education, or materials programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is expected.

The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or University of South Carolina Student Chapter, which are affiliated with the Carolinas Chapter. But students in good standing with a university in North Carolina or South Carolina or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Cagley Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students or graduate students enrolling in a Master's program.  Internship is expected and served working in a design environment in the office of Cagley & Associates in Rockville, Maryland.

Charles Pankow Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Awardees must participate in an internship in a construction environment prior to the award year. Internship is expected and usually served with Charles Pankow Builders, LTD, or on a Pankow project site.

Darrell Elliot Louisiana Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in construction, design, or materials programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is expected.

The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, which is affiliated with the Louisiana Chapter. But students in good standing with a university in Louisiana or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Don Marks Memorial Fellowship

The Don Marks Memorial Fellowship will provide support to an undergraduate or master’s student seeking a builder’s “hands-on” career in the concrete construction industry. No internship is expected.

Undergraduate Fellowships

Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry and studying in a civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction industry management program. Internship is expected and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Elmer Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry. Internship is expected and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Richard D. Stehly Fellowship

Named for former ACI President Richard Stehly.  It is awarded to undergraduate students. No internship is expected.
