The ACI Foundation and NEU: An ACI Center of Excellence for Carbon Neutral Concrete announce their first co-hosted Summit immediately before the ACI Convention in Atlanta, GA. The Summit titled "Increasing the Pace of Change: Working Together for Better Concrete Across the Value Chain" is on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
This Summit will bring together researchers, industry professionals, and experts from academia and government agencies to report on the findings, a “practical, stakeholder-focused roadmap to enable scalable implementation and support industry-wide efforts to address the emerging materials and new technologies while meeting environmental, cost-effectiveness, durability, and performance requirements for concrete infrastructure.” Industry participants will also share examples of how they are applying these findings to real-world challenges in concrete construction.
The Summit stems from an ACI Foundation-funded research project conducted between 2024 and 2026. The project was titled "Implementing Emerging Concrete Materials – Barriers and Actionable Strategies Across the Concrete Pavement Value Chain."
Somayeh Nassiri (Principal Investigator) and John Harvey (Co-Principal Investigator), both of the University of California, Davis led the project, which It identified key barriers across the concrete pavement value chain and defined actionable strategies to accelerate the adoption of alternative supplementary cementitious materials, blended cements, alternative cements, and other nontraditional materials and technologies.
