Fellowships & Scholarships

ACI Foundation Scholarship

The ACI Foundation issues research grants through its Concrete Research Council as well as eleven fellowships, seven graduate scholarships, and one undergraduate scholarship through its Scholarship Council.

The ACI Foundation is pleased to announce its 2017-2018 fellowship and scholarship winners. During the upcoming academic year, the ACI Foundation will award over $100,000 to students through 19 fellowships and scholarships.

ACI Presidents' Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction or design programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

Daniel W. Falconer Memorial Fellowship

 This award is named in memory of ACI's Managing Director of Engineering. This award will be given to a graduate student studying structural engineering with an emphasis on reinforced concrete design.  Internship is required at the American Concrete Institute in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Tribute to the Founders Fellowship

Awarded to graduate students in construction or design programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

Barbara S. and W. Calvin McCall Carolinas Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in construction, design, education, or materials programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, or University of South Carolina Student Chapter, which are affiliated with the Carolinas Chapter. But students in good standing with a university in North Carolina or South Carolina or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Cagley Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students or graduate students enrolling in a Master's program.  Internship is required and served working in a design environment in the office of Cagley & Associates in Rockville, Maryland.

Charles Pankow Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students. Awardees must participate in an internship in a construction environment prior to the award year. Internship is required and usually served with Charles Pankow Builders, LTD, or on a Pankow project site.

Darrell Elliot Louisiana Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in construction, design, or materials programs during the year of the award and interested in a career in practice or education. No internship is required.

The student should be an active member of the ACI Student Chapter at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, which is affiliated with the Louisiana Chapter. But students in good standing with a university in Louisiana or an active member of an ACI Student Chapter in the United States will also be considered.

Don Marks Memorial Fellowship

The Don Marks Memorial Fellowship will provide support to an undergraduate or master’s student seeking a builder’s “hands-on” career in the concrete construction industry. No internship is expected.

Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry and studying in a civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction industry management program. Internship is required and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Elmer Baker Student Fellowship

Awarded to undergraduate students entering their junior or senior year with an interest in a career in the construction industry. Internship is required and usually served at Baker Concrete Construction or on a Baker project site.

Richard D. Stehly Fellowship

Named for former ACI President Richard Stehly.  It is awarded to undergraduate students. No internship is required.

ACI Scholarship

Established by the ACI Foundation's Scholarship Council and receives funding through generous contributions by members of ACI. This award is also granted based on the availability of contributions received.

Bertold E. Weinberg Scholarship

Named in 2003 to recognize Mr. Weinberg, the ACI Foundation Scholarship Council Chair.

Katharine & Bryant Mather Scholarship

Established in 1988 to honor Katharine and Bryant Mather for their exceptional contributions to the knowledge of concrete. Initial funds were contributed by the sponsoring committee of an international symposium held in 1987 to honor the Mathers. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mather, deceased, were Honorary Members of ACI and Mr. Mather served as President in 1964. Continuing funding is provided by a gift from the Mather estate. The scholarship is for graduate study in the field of concrete.

Kumar Mehta Scholarship

Initiated by Dr. Mehta in 2002 to recognize students pursuing research on sustainable development of concrete. Recipients must demonstrate ongoing effort to conduct graduate research on sustainable concrete.

Schwing America Scholarship

Established by Schwing America, Inc. Recipients must have a strong combination of interest and ability to work in the concrete construction industry.

Stewart C. Watson Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to graduate students with a focus in the field of joints, bearings or seismic systems for concrete structures. The winner of this scholarship will receive $5,000.

W. Gene Corley Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Corley was recognized as an industry leader among those in the structural engineering community for several decades. This scholarship will be awarded to graduate students in the field of concrete with an interest in forensic engineering and the behavior and design of concrete structures.

Richard D. Stehly Memorial Scholarship

The ACI Foundation offers a scholarship for an eligible undergraduate student whose studies relate to concrete.
